Mary Richardson Kennedy's Death Attributed to Hanging, Psychologists See Signs in Recent Past

Mary Richardson Kennedy's Death: Asphyxiation

Mary Richardson Kennedy, the wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., died of asphyxiation by hanging, reports the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office.

Her body was found Wednesday in an outbuilding on the couple's property in Bedford, N.Y. The death has not been officially ruled a suicide, but sources told ABC News that Kennedy apparently killed herself. Her death marked the final event in a life that had turned tumultuous of late and adds yet another dark moment in the Kennedy family's history.

Psychologists said events in Kennedy's recent history, such as reports of alcohol and drug abuse and psychiatric problems, pointed to an increased risk of suicide.

"When these things come to together in just the wrong way, they can really put someone at greater risk of suicide," said Dr. Ken Robbins, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin.

Psychologists say problems with alcohol and drugs were one of the most common factors that increase a person's risk of suicide. Robbins said about 90 percent of people who commit suicide had a history of substance abuse and a record of psychiatric illness, usually depression.

"When it [depression] is combined with alcohol in particular, it increases the risk of suicide dramatically because of the disinhibiting effects of alcohol. It becomes much harder to talk yourself down from the suicidal thoughts," Robbins said.

Kennedy, 52, had four children with her husband, the son of Ethel Kennedy and Sen. Robert Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968. Mary Richardson Kennedy and Robert Kennedy Jr. had been married for 16 years. In 2010, the New York Post reported that Mary Richardson Kennedy had been at the center of several disturbing episodes.

In September 2007, the Westchester Journal News reported that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., worried about his wife's mental state, had tried to drive her to a psychologist's office. She resisted and ran from the car into the road, according to police reports.

The couple filed for divorce in 2010, a day after police had been called to the couple's Bedford home in response to a "domestic incident" during which Mary Kennedy was allegedly intoxicated, according to the Westchester Journal News. She claimed that her husband had been verbally abusive to her and her children.

Three days later, she was charged with driving under the influence after she ran the family's station wagon over a curb outside a school near their home, the newspaper reported.

In August 2010, she was arrested again for driving under the influence of drugs, according to the Associated Press.

It's difficult to tease out how Kennedy's relationship with her husband and the Kennedy family may have exacerbated her problems. The Kennedy clan is historically a close-knit group, united particularly by the series of tragedies that have haunted them, such as the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy, Sen. Edward Kennedy's involvement in a car crash on the small island of Chappaquiddick that killed a young woman, and the deaths of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, in a plane crash in 1999.

Strong social support is one factor that can reduce a person's risk suicide, even if they are facing a number of other stressors. But family violence or discord can do just the opposite, particularly if the person is struggling psychologically, psychologists say.

MANGO CRAZY SHOPPING MINUTE

I finally have the pictures from the Mango crazy shopping minute event held at the big Kudamm store with drinks and music. Two lucky winners had the chance to keep everything they wanted that they picked from Mango within one minute. That's the Crazy Shopping Minute.

Unfortunately neither Louisa nor I got picked as final two to compete in the crazy minute. Instead I checked out the Werelse for Mango Touch collection and bumped into Marie, who I got to know at the P&C Grazia Stylenight. My favourite pieces are the definitely the heels with neon heels and the clutch with the wristband.

CINEMA NIGHT: PROJECT X

Wednesday night my friend Claire and I went to the Sony Center Cinestar, because I prefer watching movies in English and this is the only place I can do so on a big fat super screen. And besides that, Cinestar is the best cinema in town. As I told you before I waiting to catch Project X on the big screen and it was awesome. Totally enjoyed it :)

Außerdem ist das Cinestar einfach mal das beste Kino in der Stadt. wie ich euch schon gesagt habe, wollte ich seit einiger Zeit Project X auf der großen Leinwand schauen und gestern Abend war einfach nur klasse. MY SUNGLASSES TRENDS FOR THIS SUMMER AND A GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

Summer is knocking on our doors, because it's just around the corner, which means it's time to get out the sunnies again! After all what is summer without a pair of shades? I have teamed up with MisterSpex to give away 2 gift vouchers each worth 50€.

Below are some of my favourite shades for this season starting with the classic: Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Wether it's black (the ultimate classic), white, tortoise or any other color, Rayban Wayfarers have become a true classic. Its timeless shape and the different finishes allows it to be on trend any season in my eyes. I think you can never go wrong with black.

Next to Ray-Bans Wayfarers their aviators are pretty classic. Gold is my preferred color for this season.

Ever since I discovered cat eyed sunnies, they've become my favourite shape. And although they were much hyped last summer thanks to Olivia Palermo or Taylor Tomasi Hill and Tommy Ton's street style photography skills to document the looks, I think they are still pretty on trend this summer for me. Still wishing for my own pair of Tom Ford Anouk!

There was a huge sporty edge on the runway and I think sporty shades would complement that look well.

I find tortoise shades in any kind of shape pretty fashionable. They always have a vintage feel to them.

Pastels. Pastels are a major hit on the runway for this summer, cotton candy pink or pastel orange. Might as well match my shades to my clothes and nail polish.

Lucite. We've been loving lucite wherever it appears on the heels, jewelry, the complete shoe, bags and so on. And sunnies? I think it's interesting that this trend has translated to sunglasses too.

To sum it up: big huge and/or round shades. MY MUST HAVE SUNNIES FOR EVERY SEASON. It's always cool to hide behind big shades :P

This time I'm a hundred percent sure I got it right. Je veux indeed means I want. And I want these Topshop heels. So bad! Because they are rad.

I hope Bonsoir is French for Good Morning. But there is a huge chance I'm mistaking. Let's just pretend I'm right :P

The last few days have been super chilled for me. I've been enjoying miniature holidays (just a few days off school) and the superhot weather Berlin is suddenly graced with. On one of the days I went to visit my friend Jasmin and carried a shit load amount of stuff with me, because she was going to help me with my project. It's the first time I'm wearing my Zara ballet slippers. Those slippers are horrible! They may look cute but they scratched open both my feet in only 5 minute of walking. :( Never experienced that before. I'm forced to wear open shoes at the moment, so my feet can heal of without pain.
