Blake Griffin dunks on Kendrick Perkins (Videos): Where does it rank among the best ever?

Kendrick Perkins was on the receiving end of Griffin’s dunk. (Chris Carlson - AP)
Blake Griffin’s monster jam over Kendrick Perkins was the highlight of the night on Monday, and is already being called the dunk of the year in the NBA.
It’s only the latest on Griffin’s growing highlight reel of jaw-dropping dunks, which could eventually make him one of the game’s all-time great finishers.
But where does this dunk rank among the best ever dunks on defenders ever? Here are a few of the most memorable posterizations of all time...
First, last night’s masterpiece from Griffin.

Perkins is starting to build his own highlight reel of the wrong kind. Griffin’s dunk was just the latest crowd-pleaser at the expense of the Thunder big man. Last swing, Dwyane Wade got up and threw it down on Perkins.
Wade was also on the receiving end last spring, when Chicago’s Taj Gibson came flying in for a fastbreak flush.
Speaking of the Bulls, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippin knew how to throw it down in their day, and Knicks center Patrick Ewing was often the victim.

No dunk highlight list would be complete without Dr. J. In this memorable slam, Julius Erving rocks the baby on Michael Cooper.
Vince Carter’s innovative efforts at slam dunk contests pushed the creative envelope in the NBA. But when posterizing, hang time and height of the defender are key factors, which is why Carter’s dunk over 7-foot-2 Frenchman Frederic Weis at the Sydney Olympics may take the cake.
So where does Griffin’s Monday night slam rank among the best? And what posterizing dunks are we missing?

Madonna And Jay Leno Discuss The Super Bowl, ‘W.E.’ And ‘MDNA’

Madonna Jay Leno Super Bowl 2012 January MDNA Give Me All Your Luvin Tonight Show

With Madonna off to the Super Bowl this weekend and her directorial effort W.E. in theaters on Friday — not to mention her single “Give Me All Your Luvin’” dropping in three days — the pop icon naturally has some promoting to do. Last night she hit up the Tonight Show,  where she described her upcoming halftime performance in Indianapolis as “the most nerve wracking thing I’ve ever done.” But don’t worry about what’s in store, America: “For sure, no nipples.” Madge quipped.

“I’m particularly nervous with a show like that because, for instance, they’re playing football all day, so we don’t really  have time to do a soundcheck,” Madonna continued. “It’s a little like a circus act. I just have to get in there, put on my show and get the eff off.”

Eventually Madge got to reminiscing about both her first big live TV performance, at the 1984 MTV VMAs, and some really bad acting auditions she’s gone on.

Even thought she’s being fairly tight-lipped about what’s in store for Sunday’s Super Bowl, are you excited to watch Madonna’s performance?

Madonna's 5 Best TV Performances (VIDEOS)

Whenever Madonna performs on TV it is an event. Thus, on the eve of her Super Bowl halftime show (Feb. 5), we're counting down her top five best TV performances ever. Determined by Billboard.com's foremost Madonna experts, this ranking presents some obvious choices, along with at least one surprise selection. Read on to find out the rankings and relive her blockbuster made-for-TV moments.

5. "Vogue," MTV Video Music Awards (1990)

Backed by her Blond Ambition tour dancers, Madonna closed the 1990 "MTV Video Music Awards," reminding people that the M in MTV stood for Madonna. Decked out in full Marie Antoinette garb, the diva lip-synced her massive Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single before being carried out on a chaise lounge.

4. "Hung Up," The 48th Annual Grammy Awards (2006)

In her third (and most recent) Grammy Awards performance, Madonna and her holographic double mingled with Gorillaz for a show-stopping opening number. After strutting around with the alternative rock act, the diva burst into her top 10 Hot 100 hit "Hung Up" with her incredibly bendy dancers. Another "Hung Up" performance almost made this list, but was edged out (just barely!) by the Grammy gig. Which? Her incredible TV debut performance of "Hung Up" on the MTV Europe Music Awards (watch here).

3. "Like a Virgin," MTV Video Music Awards (1984)

It was the first "MTV Video Music Awards" and Madonna was riding high as one of the network's new young darlings. After scoring a pair of top 10 Hot 100 hits in 1984 with "Borderline" and "Lucky Star," the diva introduced her upcoming single, "Like a Virgin," to the MTV masses on the VMAs. It's one of the most iconic VMA performances in history, thanks in part to Madonna's skin-revealing dance moves (really, she was just rolling around on the floor).

2. "Sooner or Later," The 63rd Academy Awards (1991)

Perhaps a surprising entry on this list is Madonna's performance of the Oscar-winning song "Sooner or Later" on the 1991 Academy Awards. The tune is from her 1990 film "Dick Tracy," which won composerStephen Sondheim the Oscar for best original song. Often noted by fans as one of her best vocal performances, Madonna was in full-Marilyn Monroe mode here, vamping and va-va-vooming her way through the belty number.

1. "Express Yourself," MTV Video Music Awards (1989)

Where to begin? The light-up stairs! The bustiers! The running-man! The crotch-grab! With only two backing dancer/singers (longtime cohorts Niki Haris and Donna De Lory), Madonna showed that you didn't need pyrotechnics and an armada of dancers to heat up a TV stage. (Watch for the 4:15 mark, where Madonna gives us our first taste of her vogueing -- months before she released her smash single "Vogue.")

Carolina Panthers unveil ‘more aggressive’ logo as Nike takes over NFL rights

By the looks of their new logo, the Carolina Panthers are hungry for more improvement in 2012. (AP - AP)

The 2011 Carolina Panthers bore little resemblance to their 2010 predecessors, who finished an NFL-worst 2-14.
With record-breaking rookie quarterback Cam Newton leading the way, the team improved to 6-10 and shed its status as the NFC’s least imposing opponent.
Now the Panthers want to look the part. On Monday, the franchise unveiled a new version of its logo, designed to instill fear in the hearts of its NFC South rivals.
The first alteration to the team’s Panther logo in 18 years features “a more aggressive, contemporary look,” according to the team.
“We have one of the finest and most recognizable logos in the NFL and wanted to make it as modern as possible without losing the dramatic essence of the mark,” Panthers President Danny Morrison said.

And here we thought Carolina’s new logo would just be Cam Newton’s face. (The old logo, seen here). (Gary I Rothstein - AP)
Note the lack of outline around the head, slightly darker shade of “panther blue” and the slightly-less unhinged jaw. (If you didn’t notice the alterations without looking at the new and old logos side by side, you’re not the only one.)

Not quite the overhaul that other pro sports teams experienced this year, but with Newton bringing new hope to the Carolinas, a new look made sense.
It’s unknown what changes this could mean for Carolina’s jerseys, but there could be numerous tweaks — both minor and major — to uniforms across the league with Nike taking over Reebok’s role as the NFL’s official uniform provider next season.
For now, Nike is starting with foot and handwear. The unveiled 32 new glove and shoe designs specific to each team during Sunday’s Pro Bowl. (Check out photos of both here.)
Which team logos and uniforms need an upgrade? And what would you like to see your team sporting on Sundays when the swoosh takeover is complete?

'American Idol' Pitches President Barack Obama Duet with Al Green

0130_algreen_obama_BN

"American Idol" honcho Nigel Lythgoe has balls -- he's asking Prez Obama to come on the show to do the song that made him even more famous -- with Al Green.

Seems Nigel was blown away by Obama's short rendition of "Let's Stay Together" at the Apollo Theater earlier this month.

So Nigel just tweeted the Prez, "We loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to American Idol this Season for a duet with Al Green."

We'd watch.  But is it a good move for the Prez?

'Modern Family' Parties Again at SAG Awards 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA - JANUARY 29: The cast of 'Modern Family' accept the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series award for 'Modern Family' onstage during the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on January 29, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. For the second year in a row, ABC’s Sofia Vergara and “Modern Family” took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for “Best Comedy Series by an Ensemble” in Television.

The ceremony was held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Despite losing the SAG award for “Best Actress” to veteran actress Betty White, Vergara said she was “happy” to be a part of the event again this year.

“For me these events are like a big “Modern Family” party,” Vergara told E! News on the red carpet.

Along with “Modern Family,” Alec Baldwin won for “Best Actor” for "30 Rock"; and Betty White as “Best Actress” for "Hot in Cleveland."

"You can't name me, without naming those other wonderful women on 'Hot in Cleveland,'" the 90-year-old White said. "This nomination belongs to four of us. Please, please know that I'm dealing them right in with this. I'm not going to let them keep this, but I'll let them see it."

The TV drama show winners were: Jessica Lange as best actress for "American Horror Story"; and Steve Buscemi as best actor for "Boardwalk Empire," which also won the ensemble prize.

For TV movie or miniseries, Kate Winslet won as best actress for "Mildred Pierce," while Paul Giamatti was named best actor for "Too Big to Fail."

Before the official ceremony, the Screen Actors Guild presented its honor for best film stunt ensemble to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2." The TV stunt award went to "Game of Thrones."

Latinos Sizzle at Golden Globes
The Deep South drama "The Help" won three prizes Sunday at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, including best actress for Viola Davis and supporting actress for Octavia Spencer.

"The Help" also claimed the guild's ensemble award, the show's equivalent of a best-picture prize.

Davis and Spencer won as black maids going public with uneasy truths about their white employers in 1960s Mississippi.

Jean Dujardin won the lead-actor honor for "The Artist" as a silent-film superstar whose career crumbles when the sound era arrives. Christopher Plummer won for supporting actor as an elderly dad who comes out as gay in "Beginners."

Berenice Bejo's "The Artist" Wins Big at Golden Globes
The wins boost the actors' prospects for the same honors at the Feb. 26 Academy Awards.

Plummer would become the oldest actor ever to win an Oscar at age 82, two years older than Jessica Tandy when she won best actress for "Driving Miss Daisy."

Backstage, Plummer joked about whether he would like to win an Oscar, an honor so elusive during his esteemed 60-year career that he did not even receive his first Academy Award nomination until two years ago, for "The Last Station."

"No, I think it's frightfully boring," Plummer said. "That's an awful question. Listen, we don't go into this business preoccupied by awards. If we did, we wouldn't last five minutes."

Spencer, a veteran actress who had toiled in small TV and movie parts previously, had a breakout role in "The Help" as a brassy maid whose mouth continually gets her in trouble.

"I'm going to dedicate this to the downtrodden, the under-served, the underprivileged, overtaxed — whether emotionally, physically or financially," Spencer said.

The winners at the SAG ceremony typically go on to earn Oscars. All four acting recipients at SAG last year later took home Oscars — Colin Firth for "The King's Speech," Natalie Portman for "Black Swan" and Christian Bale and Melissa Leo for "The Fighter."

The same generally holds true for the weekend's other big Hollywood honors, the Directors Guild of American Awards, where Michel Hazanavicius won the feature-film prize Saturday for "The Artist." The Directors Guild winner has gone on to earn the best-director Oscar 57 times in the 63-year history of the union's awardsshow.

The guild's ensemble prize, considered the ceremony's equivalent of a best-picture honor, has a spotty record at predicting what will win the top award at the Oscars.

Hey, That Guy's Not Latino
While "The King's Speech" won both honors a year ago, the SAG cast recipient has gone on to claim the top Oscar only eight times in the 16 years since the guild added the category.

Though "The Help" won the ensemble prize this time, "The Artist" and George Clooney's family drama "The Descendants" are considered stronger contenders for the best-picture Oscar.

Mary Tyler Moore received the guild's lifetime-achievement award, an honor presented to her by Dick Van Dyke, her co-star on the 1960s sit-com "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

SAG President Ken Howard put in a plug during the show for the guild's planned merger with another Hollywood union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The boards of both groups have approved the merger, and ballots will be sent to members of each union.

"As one union, SAG-AFTRA will support a future of great entertainment for all of us," Howard said.
