Amazon Sells 4 Million Kindles, Names Holiday Bestsellers

Amazon just released huge numbers regarding its Kindle sales over the holiday season, as the company sold more than 4 million of the devices.

It was the best holiday-ever for the Kindle family. In fact, customers purchased more than 1 million Kindle devices each week, with the Kindle Fire tablet leading the pack with most sales, followed by the Kindle Touch and the original Kindle ereader. Kindle devices were also the best-selling products on Amazon in the U.K., Denmark, Spain and Italy.
“We are grateful to our customers worldwide for making this the best holiday ever for Kindle,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.
Gifting of Kindle books also skyrocketed 175% between this Black Friday and Christmas Day compared to the same period in 2010. Meanwhile, Christmas Day was the biggest day ever for Kindle book downloads.
Amazon also reported a record-breaking holiday season for businesses that sell on Amazon. The number of third-party sellers who exceeded $5,000 in sales during the holiday season increased 44% year-over-year.
Amazon noted that its third-party sellers sold enough cameras for every fan at the next 10 Super Bowl games to take pictures, and customers purchased enough copies of Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs book to create a stack taller than Mt. Everest.
