MINIATURE UPDATE FROM MY LIFE

Right now I'm blogging from England. A few days back I was in Northampton visiting my cousin with my brother and mother and right now I am in Leicester to visit my uncle.

I watched The Hunger Games and I loved it!
Though I don't really understand the comparisons with Twilight. Children slaughtering each other and a girl falling in love with a Vampire does not exactly strike me as similar. Or is it just the crazy ass fans, the hype and hysteria that are being compared? I know for a fact that Twilight fans are mental, I haven't checked out The Hunger Games fan base, so I can't really comment on that. Either way if you get time to check out the movie, you should. :)

Anyway, more ground breaking news is that I FINALLY watched Easy A starring Emma Stone. ADORE. I love the fact that Olive (who on earth calls their daughter Olive??! Haha!) is just an everyday girl making fun of high school's primitive mentality but finding herself being caught in the middle of lies with good intentions.
Btw how hot fit, as British would say, does Lonely Boy aka Penn Badgley look in that movie??

Which reminds me I caught the latest episode of GossipGirl today. All I can say is that if there was underwear with Team Ivy or Team Van Der Woodsen/Upper East Side Bitches I'd be wearing Team Ivy right now. I'm developing a great dislike for the Upper East Side's behaviour, so you can't exactly blame me for bursting out laughing when Da Realz Gossip Girl dissed Serena. buuurrrn!

Most disappointing thing today was opening my suitcase, ready to jump into my Onepiece and get all snuggly, but having to realize I left it at home. I LEFT IT AT HOME!!!!! Bummer! England of all countries should be the home of Onepiece wearers. No weather calls more for snuggly cozy lazy days in bed in a Onepiece than here. I think I'll never be able to live in England permanently, because as a matter of fact I'd spend nearly everyday inside feeling too unmotivated to leave the house due to weather. I checked the forecast, no surprises.
Whats a snuggly day without a Onepiece? Exactly! Not snuggly at all.

Mid Season Sale!! Keeping my fingers crossed mid season sale has hit England too. On my shopping list: Topshop and Primark. The classics I guess.

I'm dying to catch Project X with my friends in cinema. I hope it'll be out by the time I'm back. I sense it's going to be the most epic movie of all times - all times!! (credits to Kanye here) after Hangover. (Or maybe even before Hangover? ;) ) Check out the trailer and you'll know why! :)

Berlin got it's first Hollister store! So sad I had to miss the event, one of many this week. I found out that there are several people I know working there. The world is so small!

dress: c/o Motel Rocks      necklace: H&M

Okay I'll leave you with that! Gotta go!
See you soon!
Until then enjoy your easter holidays.
Oh and Happy Easter of course!
Much Love!

New Year's Eve Travel: Wacky Ball Drops Across The US

The Times Square ball drop is perhaps the most iconic of American New Year's Eve traditions. Across the country, many cities have followed New York City's lead by hosting their own New Year's drops. Many of these towns have taken to thinking outside the ball.
To keep track of the country's New Year's goings on, the folks over at MapQuest complied NewYearsQuest. The state-by-state guides highlight local goings on, including where to celebrate 2012 by watching weird objects fall from the sky.
Marylanders can head to downtown Easton to watch an iconic blue crab fall. If in Orlando, ring in the new year with agiant orange drop.
For more kooky New Year's drop celebrations, check out the slideshow below.

Walleye Drop; Port Clinton, Ohio
The tiny town of Port Clinton brags of being the Walleye Capital of the World. Thus, Madness at Midnight's "Walleye Drop." That's right -- the town drops a huge, 20-foot, 600-pound model fish as if it was a Times Square ball at midnight. There's also a 6 p.m. kids-drop edition of the Walleye Drop (for "all the little minnows").

Hershey's Kiss Raise; Hershey, Penn.
The hometown of Hershey's chocolate welcomes the new year with a family-friendly celebration that culminates at midnight "when an oversized Hershey's Kiss is raised into they sky.

Possum Drop; Brasstown, N.C.
Brasstown is known as the Possum Capital of the World, and has a fitting NYE bash. The evening festivities kick off with the Miss Possum pageant, featuring some of the area's biggest, burliest men dressed up as beauty queens. Just before midnight, revelers can watch a live possum in a festively decorated cage lower as they count down to the new year.

Peach Drop; Atlanta, Ga.
Atlanta residents can attest to the excitement and energy of being in Underground Atlanta (the Five Points-area shopping district) among 100,000 of their closest friends to watch the Peach Drop. When midnight approaches, all eyes turn upward to watch the 800-pound peach's 58-second descent to welcome the new year, followed by an impressive fireworks show.

Pine Cone Drop; Flagstaff, Ariz.
Residents of Flagstaff ring in the new year with The Great Pine Cone Drop. Revelers gather outside the historic Weatherford Hotel, a downtown Flagstaff landmark for more than 100 years. As the new year approaches, attendees watch a 5-by-7-foot lighted, gold-and-silver aluminum pine cone drop from the hotel balcony.

Guitar Drop; Niagara Falls, N.Y.
What is cooler than a traditional ball drop at midnight on New Year's Eve? How about an illuminated 10-foot Gibson guitar dropping 120 feet? The Hard Rock Cafe and the city of Niagara Falls will once again be throwing their annual New Year's Eve Guitar Drop, a street festival that draws thousands to eat, drink and party the night away.

Music Note Drop; Nashville, Tenn.
Music fans can ring in the new year in Nashville at its annual Bash on Broadway, which features a live concert by a variety of country music artists. This free event, which takes place in the heart of the Music City, includes a "music note®" drop at midnight, presented by Grand Avenue. Revelers count down to the new year as the bigger-than-ever "music note®" drops from a structure of 115 feet.

Moon Pie Drop; Mobile, Ala.
Since 2008, Mobile has welcomed the new year with the free MoonPie Over Mobile festivities to celebrate its heritage as the first American city to celebrate Mardi Gras -- MoonPies are traditionally thrown from floats during Mardi Gras parades. The city's 12-foot electronic MoonPie will drop from the 34-story RSA BankTrust building downtown at midnight.

Cherry Blossom Ball Drop; Macon, Ga.
Experience New Year's Eve in the heart of Georgia with Macon's Cherry Blossom Ball Drop at Cherry Street Plaza. The free outdoor festival begins at 9 p.m. with live music and entertainment and culminates in the dropping of a custom-made metallic cherry blossom ball. Since 2009, this event celebrates Macon's status as the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World.

Holiday travel: why airports will be a little emptier this year

In this 2008 file photo, passengers arrive for flights out of Cleveland Hopkins Airport in Cleveland, Ohio. The airline industry said it expects about 20,000 fewer people per day to fly this 2011 holiday period.

The airline industry said Tuesday it expects about 20,000 fewer people per day to fly this holiday period.

But, forget about trying to change your seat from the middle to the aisle. The airlines have already cut the number of flights or scaled the size of the airplanes to reflect fewer travelers this holiday period.

About 43.3 million people will take to the air during the critical 21 day holiday period, down about 1 percent from last year, according to Airlines for America (A4A), an industry trade group. The industry expects the decline in air travel to continue through to the spring.

According to John Heimlich, chief economist for A4A, the main reason there will be fewer travelers are economic, such as declining disposable personal income, a drop in household net worth, and higher energy prices.

However, the airline industry, responding to cost pressure, has increased fares about 10 percent over last year.

But, on some routes, it’s a lot more, says Rick Seaney, the CEO of CompareFare.com, a website that tracks airfares. “The area where the rates have gone up the most are the mid and long haul routes,” says Mr. Seaney. “So if you are flying from San Francisco to Las Angeles, the rates are not up much, but if you are going to Chicago, Houston or New York [from San Francisco], they are up about 15 percent to 16 percent.”

Seaney notes that the airlines have tried to raise rates 22 times so far this year but only 9 of the rate hikes have been successful. However, this is better than last year when they were only successful at raising airfares three times in a row, he says.

Of course, passengers are used to seeing fares rise during the holidays. Seaney says that has been the trend for some time. “It’s like playing Monopoly, during the holidays they have Boardwalk and Park Place,” he says. “The only two times of the year they have that kind of pricing power is the holidays and spring break.”

The decline in holiday travel this year follows a drop of about 2 percent in air travel during the Thanksgiving period. But the drop is still relatively modest compared to a 5 percent drop in air travel in all of 2009 (versus 2008) because of the recession
.
With fewer people booking flights this holiday period, the airlines are coping by cutting the number of flights. “They are cutting back and using smaller aircraft,” says Kenneth Button, an expert on the industry and a professor at George Mason University in Arlington, Va. “Even though they are cutting back on flights it should not be that noticeable for consumers except for fuller flights.”

Indeed, Heimlich says planes this holiday period should be running at about an 85 percent load factor on the busiest days. According to A4A, the busiest time period will be between Dec. 21 to Dec. 23, Dec. 26 to Dec. 30, and Jan. 2 to Jan 3.

Despite the increase in fares and the high number of seats filled, Mr. Heimlich says the industry’s profit margin remains small – about 1 percent.

“This story is about higher costs outpacing higher revenues, leading to thinner profit margins,” says Heimlich.

For most of the airlines, aviation fuel remains one of their most volatile expenses. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), using the average fuel price, the airline industry has paid almost 20 percent – some $60 billion – more than it did last year.

With fuel costs so much higher, losses for some airlines are mounting, says Mr. Button, “Some of the airlines are making huge losses, and despite the higher prices, they are not making huge profits,” he says. “Their operating profit for the last thirty years has been zero.”

In the case of American Airlines, profit margins have been non-existent. At the end of November, the carrier declared bankruptcy in an effort to restructure its labor contracts and debt. Despite the filing, American is continuing to operate normally this holiday period.

Heimlich says the major snow storm that is affecting the Great Plains does not appear to be adversely affecting the major airlines. “There does not appear to be much of an impact on the large hubs,” he says.

BACK IN BERLINO

Hey Guys!!
I'm back in Berlin. I landed this afternoon and was shocked by the weather here. Infact I wanted to hop back on the plane and jet right back to SUNNY HOT Verona - two words that seem to be antonyms to describe this year's summer in Berlin.
I took these pictures outside of the airport just before I had to catch my flight back.
I knew weather in Berlin wasn't going to let my wear my sunhat (unless ofcourse I wanted to look like a fool out of place) but I'm scared to stuff hats into suitcases, you know what I mean?
I'm heading to the cinema in an hour! Time for some quality time with one of my best friends. :D
Have yourself a lovely afternoon and evening!
At the end of the day it's good to be back home :)
