Lady Gaga Performs in Cocoon-Like Costume on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve"

Lady Gaga took the stage at 11:38 PM for ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ special last night (Dec. 31) while encased in a black, sequined cocoon that looked a bit like an octopus. The big question of the night for little monsters was not “What is your New Year’s resolution?” but “What will Gaga wear?” The costume restricted her movement at first, and all we could see were the Mother Monster’s eyes as she sang. It was as though her attire mimicked the big ball that was about to drop in 20 minutes.

Gaga started out performing ‘Heavy Metal Lover,’ which was a bit of a shock, since that’s a deep album cut from ‘Born This Way’ and not her current single. She stripped off some of her black sequined cover up and there was some sort of cage around her head as she launched into ‘Marry the Night,’ which is a love song to her hometown of NYC and the most appropriate song she could have performed for this occasion.

Two of her dancers eventually offered an assist and removed the cage around her head. Then, Gaga danced and sang to tape while wearing a glittery, sparkly, bejeweled black catsuit and mask. She looked like a comic book super heroine whose sole duty was to guard Gotham.

After performing the whole of ‘Marry the Night,’ she launched into a truncated version of ‘Born This Way,’ which ended with her and her fellow dancers putting their paws up. It was a banner year for Gaga and there was no better way to end it then by performing in Times Square in her native city.

Gaga joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg to push the button to let the ball drop looking like a human disco ball in a silver dress complete with a face mask. She shared a big ol’ smooch with the Mayor, too!

When Ryan Seacrest interviewed the emotional singer after midnight and after the confetti fell only minutes after midnight, she was crying, and she could barely answer Seacrest’s questions. She could only compose herself enough to say that she wearing Versace! Oh how very Gaga of her. It was sweet to see her so overcome with emotion.

Rihanna Accused of Ripping Off Another Photographer with 'You Da One' Video

Rihanna is finding herself in the middle of another awkward situation when it comes to some of the shots in her latest video, ‘You Da One.’

Throughout the video, Rihanna is captured in various settings, including having shadow effects across her body of polka-dots, stripes and other patterns. Now claims are being made that the video’s director has blatantly ripped off ideas used in a 2008 photoshoot made by Norwegian photographer, Solve Sundsbo.

In addition to the shadow effects, both Rihanna and the model used in the still portraits are wearing similar body suits and wigs, although the color of the hair pieces are not the same in the video and photographs. Other similarities include both Rihanna and the model donning pink lips in the black and white footage and stills.

This isn’t the first time Rihanna has been in the middle of legal issues surrounding a music video. Earlier this year, Rihanna found herself at the wrong end of two other lawsuits with her ‘S&M’ video, which some said was a little too influenced by the work or renowned photographer David LaChappelle. Both videos in question were directed by Melina Matsoukas.

Lady Gaga, 'Take You Out' – Song Review

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga‘s present for her little monsters has arrived a little early, and no one is complaining. She planned to gift fans with a previously unheard song from ‘Born This Way’ on Christmas — and it’s already online. It’s called ‘Take You Out’ and it’s an upbeat, uptempo, super cute song that reminds us of ’70s-era New York City pop rock, thanks to the sax. It’s a stark contrast to much of ‘Born This Way,’ simply because it’s so much lighter and airier.

Clocking in at under three minutes, it’s a fun and fluffy little romp. That’s not to suggest that there is no depth to ‘Take You Out.’ It’s just less intense and lightens the mood, and that’s why we’re crushing on it, just like Gaga is crushing on the person she’s singing about!

When Gaga sings, “I still believe it / And you know we won’t be defeated / In my heart I believe it / Yeah, you and me are gonna win it, baby / I’m going take you out / Take you out / Take you out / We’re going to show this town / What I know we’re about,” you can just imagine her strutting down a deserted street, with her hands on her hips, in the East Village with a crew of dancers behind her, grooving in sync with her.

With further goofy lyrics –- what’s “Shoot it / Run it / What’s it called / Everybody loves it / Football” all about other than being a silly part that’s a hoot to sing along to? — and the infectious backbeat, it’s a positive little ode to love and the hope that a romance will “go the distance.”

‘Take You Out’ is another gem from the Mother Monster that shows a ’70s influences we’ve not yet heard from her. If they make a third ‘Sex and the City’ film, ‘Take You Out’ should be used in the opening montage if there’s any justice in this world!
